Sounds like you're right on track. Here's a few things I've figured out:
1. Hydration is really important. I actually leak less if I keep the water moving in. It seems counter intuitive, but it feels right.
2. Alcohol can become an issue. I agree, wine in particular--particularly high tannin reds.
3. I note that the time lag between "I need to go soon" and "I need to go right f-ing NOW" is a lot shorter than it used to be. Which makes sense, we're missing a valve we used to have.
If you can typically go every 3-4 hours, I'd say you're 'there'. I'd suggest you relax. The new process is a learned thing. It sounds like your body has learned much of it. Keep wearing the shields for a while for the occasional drips. Otherwise, if you let it, it will move into your subconscious, which is where you want it.
