Well, for me it is anyway.
WE are now seriously packing for a month-long trip. I have quite a few friends that do the snowbird thing, usually Florida for 3 months. We both are tired of Michigan winters.

So, we are sticking our toes in the snowbird water!!

It will be for one month. Originally, we chose Florida. We figured we could find a place, use it as a base, and take mini trips within Florida. We could also drive there. Well, despite our best efforts using VRBO.com and airbnb.com, it ended up being ridiculous. Folks would list their house/condo there, but then would not want to rent for a month. They were holding out for the season. Those that would generally want almost $5000. That just seemed too high.

Then, we had an epiphany. Why Florida? Well, because that's what comes to mind first. But, why not California? We need to go there anyway at some point soon, as I am due for a visit to Dr. Lam and we want to visit our daughter. We also have ties to Palm Springs/Palm Desert. So, we checked, on a lark, expecting the same results as Florida.
Instead, we found a variety of possibilities at, literally, half the price. We booked a place in Palm Desert. We shall see if the place matches the pictures!

Of course, we are taking a computer and supposedly they have Wi-Fi. So, like Prat., I will still try and post on HW.

We fly out of here on Wednesday. On Thursday the high should be about 80 degrees

Enjoy !el. I'll be interested to hear how it goes, I had the same issue as you, when I investigated a math in Florida.

The problem I'd have in California is work. I could easily work from anywhere, but with the time difference of 3 hours, last week in San Diego, I found myself up at 4AM watching CNBC AND CALLING CLIENTS AT 6:30AM my time.

Do you golf?? It's the main thing to do in the desert. Today is 70 degrees and sunny, a bit cool for me as I like it around 75, which it normally is.
The desert is a bargain now since the Canadian dollar has risen and all the Canadians are staying home.
Give me a call and we can have lunch after you get here.

Sun City Shadow Hills, on the border of Palm Desert and Indio, right off Jefferson and the I 10 freeway.

WOW! I mentioned ties in Palm Desert. My major tie is Miriam. She was married to my Dad, who passed away at age 97. She is 80 and we always visit her. This time we are looking forward to spending some extra time in that fashion.

She lives in Sun City!!! As I recall it is off Washington.

Are you in that same complex??

There are two Sun Cities, about 2 miles apart. I'm in the newer one, Shadow Hills, off Jefferson.

Amazing that there are two so close. Are the layouts similar? (The one I know now has 3 clubhouses. I will check out their fitness centers).

We have another snow day here in Baltimore, so my third graders avoid a day of my torment. smilewinkgrin

Buried here by 3 feet of snow, so I decided to check in. Mel, this is an awesome idea. Cali is the t!ts and there is so much to do. The only problem is traffic. I have a buddy down in Orange Co that you'd love. He routinely horrifies the bar he frequents with outlandish statements and challenges only to turn around with a big hug and... "...you thought I meant that?!" hahahaha.

Consult F8 as he has posted some pictures that would be well worth the real life enjoyment. Good luck, sounds like you're doin good. Worry less, travel and enjoy more.
