I would like to offer a slight twist on this notion.
There is a very "heroic" narrative for fighting cancer. We talk about
the battle, and beating the enemy, for example.
I don't think this is entirely healthy for everyone involved.
We
also need to acknowledge the heroics of knowing when to draw the line, providing a dignified death, and for when we say goodbye after the battle is over. When you run the challenge the full 100-yards...that is also heroic.
