IMRT/IGRT/SBRT are all well proven methods for salvage radiation therapy. If one needs SRT now, I suggest the common proven methods be used. Proton has proven to be better for certain cancers, but it has not been proven to be any better for PCa than the photon based methods.
Economically, the proton providers need to use it for PCa because there is much more potential PCa business than the less frequent cancers that benefit from Proton. Many insurance companies no longer approve Proton for PCa due to the much higher cost than IMRT/IGRT/SBRT and no demonstrated advantages. I can't imagine Medicare or insurance companies approving Proton for SBT.
