I just got back from a visitation for a gentleman I've known for many years. Here's the thing, in relation to the discussions about cancer becoming a chronic condition: He developed colon cancer 20 years ago next month. After that, there was Lung, Skin, Prostate, and at least one other. He died at 90 last week, so I suggest he died of "Anno Domini", which eventually will get us all.

Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend.

At 90, he exceeded average male life expectancy in the US by more than 10 years. One can only hope that those last 10 were good years.

There are two Biblical quotes that come to mind for him: (maybe someone else can find the references)

"..And he died, old and full of years, and was gathered to his fathers..."

"..I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course..."

Always sad when we lose someone.

Still, 90 years and 20 with cancer. Good for him.

Yep, good for him, he fought the good fight and with pretty good results.

Reminds me of my across the street neighbor. Well up in his 80s, out working in his yard or walking or just driving to church or to take a lady friend out to dinner, or traveling to see his children. His wife died at home of Alzheimer's 5 or 10 years back. His PSA has been 15-20 for more than a couple of years now, he just ignores it and has chosen to do nothing about it other than natural. However many yeas he has left, he seems to be getting maximum quality out of them.
