Steve's dad - lesions on his liver

Hi all -

I haven't posted for a bit, but I know Steve has been on the forum recently. His dad has been battling PCa for 20+ years. He was DX'd around the age of 65 (same age as Steve), and had radiation. He is not sure what kind, just that he went for many, many weeks. Cancer came back 6 years later and he did ADT and has been on chemo and in a few different trials over the years. (He's old school German and does not like to talk about the details of his treatments, so it's been like pulling teeth to get info out of him.)

Bad news is that there are now lesions on his liver that will be biopsied on Thursday. Steve is taking this news pretty hard.

Kindly keep Steve and his dad in your thoughts and prayers.

Sending prayers for strength to help guide Steve as he provides support, guidance and encouragement to his Dad. Also praying for the lesions to be manageable with non invasive tx. Praying for you as well dear, as you will be holding the hand of your DH as he holds the hand of his Dad. Keep us posted.

I know how hard it is when it's one's parents. Knowing you guys, I'm sure you've recommended the best care around (like the rest of us, parents can be stubborn!). Maybe they'll find a chemo cocktail that can keep the liver mets at bay.

Thx you all so much for your good thoughts and support. It means a lot to us.

I think Steve is taking this so hard because #1, it's his dad! and #2, he sees this as his own possible future. But that is just my perception. Steve is usually SO optimistic. It's hard to see him down. We found out last nite that the biopsy has been pushed to next Monday. Arghhh!

We are trying to get details on just who is on his medical team. Again, it's like pulling teeth. Most of our communication is with Steve's mom (his dad has hearing loss & phone conversations are difficult) and she is not on top of this at all. I think a trip to the Raleigh area is in our near future. It will definitely put Steve's mind at ease.

Suz, hang in there. I'm going to be in your area this weekend if you'd like to get together. I do know this: there are some great doc in the 'research triangle' of NC.

Jack - you are so right about that! I lost my folks when they were in their mid-70s. It is a blessing that Steve has both of his parents, my sons have grandparents and my grandson has great-grandparents.

Halbert - it would be great to see you! I am working one day this weekend and also have a baby shower to attend but Steve will definitely be available. Hope all is well with your mom. Text me and we can set something up. I think it would be so good for Steve to spend time with you.

Beth / Cyclone - I've read your posts several times. I am touched to tears by your caring concern.

Steve's dad had the biopsies today for the lesions on his liver. The preliminary report is VERY encouraging. Will talk with Steve's mom again tonight when the dust settles a bit more, but she mentioned something about clumps of blood vessels???

Steve is so relieved with this news. Halbert was in Cleveland over the weekend and they had the chance to grab a beer together. I think that helped him a lot, too. Like most guys his age, Steve does not have a ton of close friends. He's got golfing buddies and work buddies and can shoot the breeze with just about anyone, but there are not many people he feels comfortable talking with about his PCa. Thanks for lifting his spirits, Halbert!

Suz, it was good to see Steve as well. And the pastrami was 'best ever'. He told me some of what his dad is doing, and the trial, and everything. It sounds like he's being watched by a great team. Hang in there.
