Psma pet scan done today

I did my fathers PSMA PET scan yesterday. Report came as having two lesions on bone.one at left 4th rib posteriorly and one lesion at right sacral ala.no soft tissue, lymph node involvement seen. Doctor advised for chemotherapy and after that radio therapy for bony mets and prostate fossa.i am confused as my oncologist told me that docetaxal given in hospital is generic medicine and having les efficacy and i should bring my product in order to get better results. Well i have no idea about the product which i should bring and cost of that.

That's an odd statement for a doctor to make. Did you ask for clarification?

I work in same hospital. I am doing PhD in tubrculosis. This is one of the best reputed government hospitals in India. I personally know all doctors here and this was kind of internal news for me no to use drug here as they use local brand of docetaxal. Which company manufactures taxotere? Kindly let me know.

Taxotere brand is manufactured by Sanofi-Aventis. The generic, docetaxel, has been available for several years. I had not heard that the generic was inferior to the brand-name drug.

What type of PSMA scan? Just curious because I had a DCFBC PSMA scan?

PERHAPS the reason is that certain facilities in India that make generics have serious manufacturing problems. The FDA has found issues and has issued warnings. May even have stopped production of certain generics that are imported into the USA.

I don't know in which facility (generic) docetaxel is made and whether the quality is the issue that the doctors have hinted at.

Many brand name drugs sold in the US are manufactured in India, China and a number of other countries. There have been recalls of drugs, brand and generic, manufactured in the US as well. Quality control is what matters, not the country of origin.

You have been so effective at getting your father what he needs and keeping his cancer at bay. His PSA is still pretty low with having the bone involvement. I hope the chemo and radiation keep it that way! Best wishes to you both. As I've said before, your father is lucky to have you he must be very proud of you!

Thanks for so encouraging words. Well I am confused very much some doctors advising not to give chemotherapy yet as he having very low PSA levels and zytiga should be given. They have left decision on is whether to start hormone therapy or chemotherapy. I am very much confused some body please help. Suggestions needed.

There is no medication that has improved survival and pain palliation as much as early use of docetaxel.

I agree with Allen. He knows his stuff. And from everything I've read, zytiga works best AFTER chemo.

My treatment experience matches your current line of inquiry --- upon diagnosis in 2013, I started on the ADT hormone shots ... then went right into a series of TAXOTERE chemotherapy treatments, which helped knock my PSA down to an even lower point --- that was almost two years ago now --- in due course, ZYTIGA was then prescribed for me --- it was gratifying to watch ZYTIGA knock the PSA down even lower --- after my chemotherapy treatments were finished.

My course of treatments have been master-minded by my original urologist, my primary oncologist, with additional consultation input and diagnostic assessments from Dr. Eugene KWON, the noted urology oncologist from Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota --- he treats patients from all over the globe and has helped outline and affirm my current sequence of treatments --- starting with the continuous ADT hormone therapy shots, followed by the TAXOTERE chemotherapy infusions, with follow-up from the ZYTIGA medication.

I hope that your father begins to show improvement, as his medical treatments begin in India !

Dear cyclone,

I wish your PSA stays in control and wishes for your good health. It was very difficult to arrange taxotere in India and a single cycle will cost me 32thousand rupees.but i am hopeful it will definitely help to keep my fathers PSA in limits. I am only little worried for side effects but have geard taxotere have very mild effects.
