OT-- A fun item for my HW Family

OK folks, if you don't like this, blame Logo. He started it, talking about equations and other esoteric (to say the least) matters.

I do this with my University Math Students.

In general, when we complete a proof in Mathematics, we "sign it" with the initials QED (often written in script form). I tell the kids what it means. It is basically a Latin Phrase (quod erat demonstrandum) with the loose translation: The Truth Has Been Demonstrated. But, the "joke" among mathematicians is "Quite Easily Done."

Now for my little test to you guys.
In England, the mathematicians often conclude a proof, with the HUMOROUS phrase abbreviation, EMDW. It's in the QED joking spirit.

So, what does it stand for!??

If nobody gets it, I'll give you all a hint!

Also: you are on your honor not to look it up!

(Definitely a head-scratcher, Mel).

Trying to use a little logic here, perhaps it's reasonable to assume that the "M" stands for a form of the word "mathematics" (mathematician, math, etc.), and since "British" is involved, maybe the "E" is for "English?"

Mel, I appreciate more than you know the reminders about the gentle humor of the college classroom. As a child, I remember the things I saw in my dad's office and classrooms. (He taught Organic Chemistry) For example, one year the students got t-shirts that said, "When in doubt, close the ring" Or the poster on his office door that showed a raggedy ann doll halfway through a mangle (a laundry roller) that said, "The truth will make you free....but first it will make you miserable"

Notably, the phrase "Elementary my dear Watson" (EMDW) was never uttered by the character in any of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's written works.

Though "Elementary," and "...my dear Watson." both appear near the beginning of The Crooked Man (1893), it is the "...my dear Watson" that appears first, and "Elementary" is the succinct reply to Watson's exclamation a few lines of dialogue later. This is the closest these four words ever appear together.

That's for all you newbies...

by the way, Compiler, our "english" translation of QED is Quite Easily Disputed...
