Does anyone know where sperm goes after robotic prostatectomy, Ive read a couple of different theories.

I understand it is like a vasectomy. The sperm can not enter the uretha and die. Then the body absorbs and discards the dead sperm.

The seminal vesicles which produce semen are ALWAYS removed in surgery...they can't work without the prostate.

It must be the same destiny for the sperms for the RT men. RT causes loss of ejaculation in the majority of patients. Has anyone ever become a father after RP or RT treatment?

Well, the presence of ejaculate has nothing to do with the presence of sperm cells. I had a vasectomy over 20 years ago, and I shot blanks until the night before surgery. I never really thought about what happened to the little swimmers after the vasectomy--i just knew they weren't there to cause unexpected events in the future.

They just hang out in the testicles until they slowly get reabsorbed by the body.

I think with the SVs removed, nature just doesn't 'work' anymore.

Kind of a sore point with me. I had a vasectomy at nearly 50 years old, only to be Dx'ed at 51 and subsequently go through the RP. What a waste of time and dignity that vasectomy was!

My gastroenterologist was told he'd need another vasectomy after they pulled his prostate.

IT, I hadn't heard that one. It is well known that a RP stops the ejaculation and path for the sperm to travel out of the body. I can't understand why another vasectomy would be needed. I know little about a vasectomy, but when a friend had one the work was done well away from the prostate surgery field.

The difference between a vasectomy and a prostatectomy:

One is all juice/no seeds and the other is no juice/no seeds!

No seeds in either, so island time I can't imagine a reason for someone to have a vasectomy after a prostatectomy--but I'm not a doctor, and maybe there's a reason far off of the typical reason for a vasectomy.

I'm not big on "I know someone who knew someone who..." kinda stuff.

IT, I don't get that one either. I know for sure that when I had my vasectomy, the incisions were in the scrotum, and the vas deferens were tied off and cut--a long way from the prostate.
