My oncologist's nurse messaged me that while they (rather grudgingly) refilled my Megace prescription for one more month, that since I'm done with hormone therapy they don't think it's indicated anymore.
Now, Megace hasn't completely stopped my hot flashes, but it cuts them by 60-75%. I've tried going off of it a couple of times, but the hot flashes increase in ferocity and frequently rather quickly.
I pointed out that while the active drug therapy has "run out", it's testosterone-suppressing effects won't likely end for months, maybe years, maybe never. Hard to say after 3 years on it.
So, I've asked for a testosterone test as part of my upcoming blood work next Monday. It seems that the Megace should be warranted at least until my testosterone gets above the "castrate level", if not until it reaches the bottom of normal.
Have any of you run into this discussion? I may be the only one currently active on the forum on Megace, but it has certainly been helpful in reducing my hot flashes, the most annoying part of the hormone therapy.
