My PSA Results

how you doing, good people? my PSA went up from a 6.2 in march, to a 6.92 this july. my uro says i can hold off for now with getting an MRI. he wants to C me in three months. if the PSA is within the same range or lower, he'll see me in three to six months. if the PSA runs higher, he'll order an MRI.

let me ask, i've been feeling a slight discomfort when i sit down. is it possible to feel your prostate enlarged? my urine stream is fine and i'm not straining to move my bowels. i was just feeling some discomfort and was a bit curious.

Sammas, your PSA is in a "gray area" where many people's test results jump up and down a lot. There are several reasons that they jump around, mostly benign reasons...which you have already been diagnosed with. Prostate cancer is one of the possible non-benign reasons, but you are really, really young for that, so your urologist seems to be making a smart call to see why it is as high as it is...that is a high value for someone 42, but typically someone your age will have a prostate infection (prostatitis) causing PSA. Infections are difficult to battle, but smart to weed that out, first, before leaping into an invasive biopsy. Next visit, discuss antibiotics.
