Having just had a PSA bounce 18 months post RT, I am aware that it is not an uncommon occurrence. I have read the theories of what may cause these bounces and how some studies have shown experiencing a PSA bounce was associated with improved biochemical disease-free survival. A PSA bounce occurred sooner after radiotherapy than a recurrence of prostate cancer.

Can someone elaborate on that last sentence? I realize there is no way to be certain with a bounce what the cause is, but it seems from my reading that it usually takes 3-4 years post RT to see biochemical recurrence? I’m looking for any silver lining in this cloud hanging over me right now.

Hr: If you will research RT guys on this board you will see all kinds of PSA patterns following their therapies. The research is pretty evenly divided on whether or not a bounce or a quick drop is associated with less chance of recurrence. I am not aware of any studies that say recurrence has a particular time frame following RT.

I do know that each man is different and the post PSA patterns will bare this out. Many guys have had up to three bounces but their latest PSA is "down" and that takes some patience.

Hi Puf-N-Stuff. the line you are questioning simply states that post RT, you will see a PSA bounce BEFORE PSA increase due to a BCR. I wasn't aware a bounce was guaranteed.

Although I am headed down the same "wondering about my PSA -trend-post-RT" path as you, I'm still in the foothills, so I really don't have anything to add yet.

Wishing you a bounce, but NO BCR!!!
