Has Cialis gotten any cheaper?

Didn't know generic Cialis was available in the US.

The exact dates for the expiration of the patent for Cialis (Tadalafil) are surprisingly slippery to determine. I'm fairly sure there is no such thing as generic Cialis available at any US, Canadian or European pharmacy. Depending where you look, Google hits for Cialis patent expiration will provide expiration dates as early as 2012 (extended to 2020), 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020. 2017 seems to be something of a consensus figure.

I'm not sure of this but I think that as the patent expiry date approaches the developer of a drug will approach the major manufacturers of generics and offer them a slight headstart in exchange for helping support the price when the the patent expires.

With all that, the date we can expect generic Tadalafil to enter the market is, again, hard to tell but the consensus date seems to be sometime late in 2018. And even after that the price may take a while to drop.

But while you wait there is generic sildenafil (Viagra) available in the US if your doctor writes the prescription the right way. If you can use that you can get it at about 1/10th the price of Cialis.

Sorry. Not smart enough to figure this out.

There are two patents for Cialis in Canada. I think one expired last year and the other expires next year. There was a claim by Mylan Pharmaceuticals heard early last year claiming that Eli Lilly Canada's second patent -- the one that expires next year, Patent 2226784, I think -- was invalid because there wasn't enough difference between the claims of the first and second patent and Lilly had just re-patented the same thing without claiming any particular advance of the state of the art. (Double patenting of the same invention to extend patent protection is illegal.)

I've found articles that claim that Mylan won and others that claim Lilly won. Candidly, I can barely make heads or tails of any of them. Here is a link to what seems to be three different decisions of the same dispute.

This seems to confirm my belief that there is no generic for Cialis in Canada at this time. But the issue has been sufficiently confusing that there could easily be scrips out there written by doctors who thought there was, or would be. I think the website you linked is legit... but... I also think Lilly is trying to get as many scrips nailed down to the Cialis brand as they can by giving the impression that there is a generic but it may be counterfeit or otherwise sketchy and encouraging customer to demand the Cialis brand because the price is the same (because there is, really, only the one drug.)

But I could be wrong... Because I'm not smart enough...

I buy generic Viagra ..... Sildenafil 100 mgs in Canada and pay about $ 12 per pill.


Is the same item available at a lower cost ?

Probably worth checking out. I think $12 is outrageous.

I take tadalifil (marketed in the US as Cialis) for around $0.25/day or so. I buy from a mail-order business out of India. I have made several online purchases with the same company for a roughly 2-year supply of the daily pills, each time for about $200. [What I actually do is buy the 20mg pills, cut them in half, and take one every other day.]

They do also offer a Viagra/sildenafil pill...I don't know the price; never looked closely because I started with Cialis from the beginning and have had good results.

Would you be able to share this mail-order business name?

There are rare Canadian pharmacies that are legal for US citizens, but the rest rule afoul of customs. There is a rule about discussion of things that are illegal.
