There is more than one type of hernia to consider. I haven't had prostate surgery, but I did have what the doc called a "fat hernia." No, I am not fat or overweight, but this was a tear in my abdominal fascia (the tough layer between the abdominal muscles and internal organs) that allowed a very small amount of visceral fat to escape, trapping it between my muscles and skin. It was just barely visible, and if I had any extra fat around my mid-section it would have been invisible. Visible or not, when the fat "got out" it HURT.
The repair was a very brief outpatient procedure, and things have been just fine ever since.
See your internist - he/she is probably the best one for a first opinion.
