"Happy" two-year anniversary for high Gleason--G9--low PSA 3.32

This was one of those fingers-crossed, bated-breath urology visits following PSA test, a kidney ultrasound, and special urine test to check for bladder cancer cells. All's well! My husband's PSA is 0.05. Once again, I thank everyone here for helping us get onboard the PCa HW train two years ago. Thanks to advice here, my husband opted for 3-year Lupron plan, plus 9 weeks of IMRT. The Lupron can be a bear in all the ways men on Healing Well experience--fatigue, hot flashes, osteopenia going the wrong direction, erectile dysfunction, and more! My husband has no residual side effects from IMRT as yet. Throughout, he's kept up his running several times a week and just got back from a 2000-mile motorcycle trip. Way to go!

The quotation marks around "Happy" in the subject box is PCa happiness everyone here can understand. In some ways it's deeper than the old happy because it's so precious and is based on getting through the first shock of this sucky cancer. And it's the kind of happy that goes with being relieved at the six-month good news. Tune in again in six months, if not sooner.

I've updated my husband's signature. Please note, the previous PSA done at the VA, the 0.16, was a different test type done at a different lab.

Good news indeed! We'll hope his PSA stays so low throughout the whole term of hormone therapy.

When he comes off of it eventually, as his testosterone (hopefully) recovers, the PSA may drift up a little bit. Not to worry even then!

He and I are in the same boat, pretty much the same treatment plan. I stuck out the whole 3 years, but the necessity of 2 vs 3 is arguable today. Hormone therapy is not fun, a tough sentence for a guy to endure. My hat's off to the guys here who are one it permanently; the whole time I was on it there was always the intention of getting off of it one day.

I've been tracking your case practically since I signed up on Healing Well. Yes, you and my husband both had similar treatment and long-term ADT. Your postings have been incredibly helpful. In the spring, we'll be seeing a Mass General team we saw at the beginning of all this. They're the ones who thought long-term ADT and IMRT was a good way to go. That's when my husband decided he didn't want surgery. (There were extenuating circumstances, too, since he'd had abdominal surgery about eight months before the PCA diagnosis though at least one top surgeon at Sloan Kettering was willing to go in, keeping an open surgery guy on hand because of possible complications. No thanks.)

"Thanks" for reminder. I just posted a little about my four year anniversary, so I'm right there , a little further along from you guys, and its all good..as if this could be good.!
