Congratulations on getting through the surgery and for sure with the woodie(I still haven't had one).
I just stuck with the pain meds every so many hours because I wanted to stay ahead of the pain. As with other surgeries I had heard that once you let the pain seep in it's harder to get rid of it. I probably kept the meds as prescribed for 4-5 days and slowly weaned off them to day 7 or 8. I was bound up as the surgery alone can do that and the pain meds sure didn't make things easier but by day 3 or 4 I started taking more stuff to go so I could have my first bowel movement. I think I finally had to take a suppository as nothing else was working though they told me take that as a last measure. I was in their hospital and their facility until my catheter came out for about 8 days so I didn't mind taking the pain killers as I had no where to go anyway. While other's here have mentioned advil, etc. in the past; my Drs. specifically said not to take anything like that right away as they didn't want anything that would start to reduce inflammation without giving the body it's chance to start it's own healing process.
Hopefully you can call your Doc anyway and speak to some staff if it is concerning to you. I know my first couple of days were difficult with moving in anyway that engaged the stomach core area.
You may be going through alot of things in that area for the first week or so( I had the extremely swollen testicles starting at day2 or 3, frightening) but as long as it's not too extreme you are probably on the right track. But again don't be afraid to pester your Doctors staff, better to be safe and keep them aware.
