Im missing bowie the most...my favorite quote of his is that "hitler was the first rock star" and also liked The Man Who Fell to Earth...a little recognized film... don't freak over the hitler quote...in a macabre way he is right...
A Bowie song I rarely hear came on the car radio last night, and I was really getting into it. Suffragette City ( AKA Wham Bam, thank you, mam!).
In what I believe was the summer of 63, between the 8th and 9th grade. I got my widowed, working Mom to cough up big bucks for the tickets to see a matinee in Jacksonville, FL for 1st Lawrence of Arabia, and then- at the Cinerama theater - How the West Was Won. I still remember how much my dear old Mom, a single mom struggling to earn enough money to raise me, complained about
the cost of those tickets. Especially at the Cinerama theater. Maybe several dollars, compared to the usual sat afternoon movie in a smaller town we moved from of well less than $1, often way less. It was touch and go until the last minute if I would get to go or not. Anyway, I loved the movie, and promptly fell in love with Debbie Reynolds, and remained in that condition for a few years. She sang (among others) a song called "Home in the Meadow" which was to the tune of a Christmas carol "What Child is this", and I loved it.
Then about
12 years later I watched her 19 year old daughter(though I did not know of the relationship) in the original Starwars at a theater in Pueblo, CO. I remember enjoying the movie quite a bit, but did not fall in love with Carrie Fisher, though she was just fine in the movie and nice enough to look at. I was rather blown away when Debbie died one day after her daughter. RIP to both.
