Following my original post in this thread, Paxton raised a legit question about
whether the findings (numerous old threads being
open when I took the “snapshot”) were due to a scenario whereby some users who had for some reason
opened a HW/PC page and then (perhaps long ago) abandoned—but left
open—that page on their device.
I replied that I would re-run the “snapshot” test some days later, positing that any of the old threads which were found to be
open in BOTH tests may, indeed, fit Paxton’s suggestion…and that by re-testing we could (probably) at least see whether his theory might explain closer to 20%, 50% or 80% of the old
open threads. In
this post, I have the results of re-testing based on a snapshot I took today, nearly one week after the original test.
Since that original exchange with Paxton, Forum Moderator 142 also chimed-in that periodic server re-sets would knock-out—at least between re-sets—anyone who had abandoned an
open HW/PC page…so perhaps the re-test is at this point moot, but I ran it again anyhow…
-------------------------------------------------------------
I ran the results today when there were 405 users online at HW; 390 were “Guests,” and 15 were “Registered Members,” which was ratio similar to the original test. 42 of the users were at HW/PC pages, and six of those 42 were “Registered Members.”
The question to be answered in this re-test is:
How many of the HW/PC posts which were open in the original test are also open in the re-test?The answer is that
3 threads—out of the 42 currently
open—were also
open in the original test; indicating that likely less than 20% of Paxton’s theory is possibly explainable by this scenario.
Here’s the three that were
open in both tests:
