24 core biopsy

Hello,

Tomorrow is my day for a 24 core biopsy. Not looking forward to this. I am praying the pain is minimal.. I do have one question and it may sound odd but here it goes. For those of you that have had a 24 core biopsy did you have trouble peeing following the biopsy?? I'm asking because its not so easy for me on a regular basis but sticking 24 needles in surely won't help.

No problem urinating. Expect blood in your urine (and semen) that could go on for days. Also expect some blood coming out from your rectum right after the procedure during your first couple of bowel movements. For me, I took a pad to sit on while driving home.

Hope the results are negative, but if they are not, this is a great place for information.

My biopsy was "only" the standard 12-core, but I had pretty much no issues afterward. Yes, I had some very minor rectal bleeding, and the usual slasher-movie semen, but no issues with voiding or bowel movements. I went out for lunch with my wife after the biopsy.

The doc did give me a pad to put into my shorts afterward, but when I removed it a couple of hours later there wasn't a mark on it.

I didn't have any problems, but my brother did. His URO wanted him to pee before he left. He couldn't so they sent him home with a cath. It stayed in for 2 two days and then he was fine.

Likely that would be the worst you have - a cath for a couple of days. Likely it will be a non-event.

You could ask for something for the pain is that's a concern. I didn't need it, but some do.

It feels like a bee stinging you. At least that's what I thought. There was bleeding. Wear dark pants. My wife says I have a low threshold of pain and it wasn't that bad for a wimp like me. Good luck, it ain't that bad.

24 cores is a lot! If that's transrectal, I hope you specifically requested a "periprostatic nerve block" or a "pelvic plexus nerve block." If not, you might want to delay the biopsy until you can get one of those.

Expect some blood in urine for a few days and blood in semen for a few weeks. You may have a sore butt for a day and some bleeding on your TP. Some guys have pain while peeing for a day or two, most don't. Monitor your temperature - if any fever - call your doctor immediately.
