Just received latest PSA blood test results from Thursday (1/12/17). It has now been five consequetive monthly values at < 0.015 - six consequetive months if you include 0.016. This has been a real roller coaster ride this last nine years!!!
Initial treatment included IMRT radiation treatment with 3 years of Lupron shots. I blew up in weight adding 45 pounds along with all the other side effects. I'm not sure how much significance the University doctors gave to my cholesterol, LDL, HDL, etc. with my initial treatment.
April, 2011 was my last Lupron shot reaching the lowest PSA value of 0.21. The cancer immediately recurred but slowly rising to a high of 9.5 (October, 2013). Doctor put me on Casodex which maintained the PSA around 9.5 until salvage cryosurgery was performed by Dr. Silverman (March, 2014). The lowest the PSA reached was 0.5 after which another slow buildup to 6.2 (April, 2016).
Latest treatment has included a combination of Firmagon, Xtandi, and PBT radiation treatment to the prostate gland and surrounding seminal vesicles. Within a month of completing the radiadiation treatment (August, 2016) my blood PSA was at 0.016! As we all know here, seeing low PSA numbers next to your name is very gratifying - hoping this is a long stay!
