Best Imaging for Gleason 8/Low PSA?

Hi all,

Is there a recommendation for a specific type of imaging that would be better at picking up mets/micro mets etc for those with a high gleason/low psa? sometimes this results in blastic bone mets etc.

We have an appointment on Monday with a radiation onc and I'd like to have some questions ready. Thank you!

Didn't you say that they are doing additional pathology? That will tell them what is detectable and what isn't and with which method. There are no general answers to your question, only specific answers based on his specific pathology. The doctor will tell you.

Dr Who - I think I once read that the Axumin scan will pick up ductal. Does an FDG scan detect it?

tall allen, we're getting a pathology review and additional pathology, yes. but we haven't been given a timeframe for that. tomorrow is our first appointment with the new radiation onc at a good hospital here in toronto, and we have some concerns that there are more mets, as my dad had some severe rib and spinal pain (this could of course, also be related to his spinal decompression surgery, but we want to be on the safe side)

basically, this recurrence happend at least a year ago but with no monitoring during that time we don't know where the cancer is - so far ct scan and bone scan only showed the one met. then an MRI of a more focussed area on his spine again just showed the one. we're hoping that's all there is but after being let down so badly in the past this time i want to make sure i push for whatever is needed and educate myself more than i did last time.
