Anyone taking alfuzosin?

Hi Folks,

I am well into my second week of IMRT radiation therapy and I've noticed its getting difficult to pee. I've suffered
with a weak stream for years but this IMRT is having an effect on me and making it worse. They said I could try a drug called alfuzosin, has anybody here been on this before? if so did it help? did you have any side affects? You all have been great to me and I continue to read every day. I will post more on my treatment as I get further along. Thanks again.

I take alfuzosin on occasion--I pee at about 70% efficiency following IMRT and brachy. The alfuzosin helps a lot in terms of going. That said, it lowers your blood pressure (I believe all the alpha blockers do that) so sometimes if I stand up quickly, I get dizzy. I've thought about switching back to another alpha blocker to see if it makes a difference.

But bottom line...if you're having urination difficulties I would definitely try alfuzosin or one of the other alpha blockers.

I've been on alfuzosin pretty consistently for almost three months. I started taking it about seven months after completing SBRT when a "flare" of urinary burning started up. For me it's been more subtle in helping me both increase and control flow, plus it seemed to reduce the burning. No noticeable side effects including the dry-eye side effect when I had tried flomax. Note that alfusozin is available as a generic. I'm charged about $3.50 per month from Costco paid outright, not processed through my insurance. Maybe your doctor can give you two or three days of samples. You'll have your own conclusion by then.
