Who is your HW PCa Hero?

OK, guys and gals, this is NOT meant to slight anyone out here on HW. We are all warriors in this fight and are in this fight together. I must admit, and I am sure others do too, that certain HW individuals stand out for you from the crowd. Why?.... Well only we, as individuals, know why. So, I seek out, who is your HW Hero? I will not try to define that for everyone. Each must decide the things that factor into their decision.

My definition of a HW Hero is someone that is somewhat similar to me in diagnosis and prognosis that is battle tested over time and has lived life to the fullest during the fight. I know a lot of people may qualify, but I also throw this into the mix, those individuals that are HW active and continually offer their advice and well wishes to other members.

So, my three HW Hero's are Bohemond, Gunner34 and Tony Crispino. I look continually at these guys for inspiration during my fight. I need to throw one more name out there even though he does not meet "my definition", and that is Tall Allen. Loads of info and always willing to share.

Again, this is not intended to 'leave anyone' out. Maybe some of you think we are all "Hero's", that's OK, too! So, if this offends you, please just ignore.

I'm new here and am not familiar with everyone's stories. I think all the men battling advanced prostate cancer with mets are heroes, including my dear husband. It's very inspirational to see those whose treatments against the beast have been successful for 7 or more years.

Jay - I hesitate to answer a "poll" like this one. I feel that way because although there are quite a number of super-heroes here, for me, some of the "ordinary guys" have been just as monumentally helpful.

Sometimes just a simple "Hang in there - you'll figure it out" from one of the guys who has dealt with 10 times what I have is just what I needed. So many people here have helped me in so many ways that I feel it would be unfair for me to try to single out anyone.

Don't get me wrong - I think this sort of recognizing our super-heroes is a good way to let others know that they are appreciated. It is just that my own feeling that here at the HW PCa forum, the whole is far more than the sum of its parts.

Pax, I agree.....after thinking more about it. I want so much to identify with "success" stories. But defining that is hard. I have received so much support from so many HW members, it is overwhelming sometimes. I think I should have worded this as, "who do you identify with the most on HW".

Having been here just a few weeks Iam totally impressed with all the knowledge here, so thank you all for the continue education about meds and tests and procedures. Lord knows we have all been through a bunch of this. One thing I would like to share is I am an old Yankee fan and one of the best catchers ever was Yogi Berra. To somewhat quote Yogi. "Cancer is 90% mental and the other half physical" He did not really say cancer he said baseball, but I live with my version everyday. I truly appreciate the words you folks type here, they help me a bunch

IMHO everyone and anyone who has stared down the barrel at Big "C" and had victory or is still alive and kicking and continuing to fight the good fight, is ALL HERO.

For me personally, Tall Allen meant the most to me. It wasn't so much any particular advice he gave me specifically, but more everything I have read that he has posted over time. I spent countless hours during my evaluation of treatment protocols pouring over posts on this forum as part of my due diligence processes, and I found TA was a common denominator across many of the posts that provided the most value to me. I'm sure I am one of many who count ourselves extremely fortunate for his breadth and depth of knowledge on PCa.

There were many others who provided mad encouragement and words of wisdom as well, and continue to do so. Thanks to all of you for sharing your time, wisdom, and life stories.

One of my favorite sitcoms was/is Keeping Up Appearances, and I laugh at Geoffrey Hughes who was Onslow in this show. Mr. Hughes died at 68 of pc. One of his greatest lines was, "you have to admire a stiff upper lip". That's what I admire. The men and their partners that fight a bigger battle than I do and keep a stiff upper lip. I only have G8. These people with G9 are my heroes. You guys and gals are a tremendous inspiration. Thank you so much for sharing. God bless each one of you warriors.

Thank you I laughed for a good five minutes. We need a whole lot more things to make all of us to laugh.
If you were serious I do apologize, maybe. Laughter is wonderful medicine it increases oxygen intake and stimulates blood flow. Duke48 sorry never heard of that sitcom, I will look it up this weekend.

As one of the longest time members here, no way I can play this game. Too many heroes, too many fighters, too many that die way too early from the demon PC. I can't even fairly rank members, as each story is an unique story, with its own share of issues, problems, and set backs. I view each player here as an equal, as my peer in the battle we fight.

In all my years, there's been most 5-6 total AH's. They either took the hint and left, or got weeded out by our moderators. So probably means that the ever evolving group here is made up of at least 98% or higher good people.

The vast number of women here always amazes and makes me glad. The women add an entire other side to what is going in, and seeing their endless support of their other halves is outstanding.

Again, I simply can't single or name just one or even a handful of "greats", as everyone here is great in their own way.

Finding this site turned out to be a very good thing for me personally. I haven't been here long but many people have helped me a great deal. I'm impressed by the dedication and knowledge of the membership here.

If I was going to single any one person so far it is TA that has helped me find the path that I'm on. All of my friends are like ... who is this Tall Allen guy you keep talking about!

P.S. Dana Farber agreed with Johns Hopkins on my original Gleason 8 being a 4+3, so I updated my profile. I had a couple of IPA's to celebrate the confirmation.

Please let me say why I come here (then you all can get back to who your heros are). Cancer, for me, isn't "fought" with just one weapon. My needs change. Sometimes it's technical support. Sometimes it's perspective. Sometimes it's comradery. As much as not....I like this place....because here, I can find "real". The internet, the tv, society.....so much distraction. Here....very few distractions. Here...it's real life. Real $%#t, real people. real problems, real interaction.


As to heros? I guess it's all in the context. They're found serendipitously. 50 times I can come here...and that one guy gets on my nerves every time. But that 51st time....he's hits the nail on the head. And...as many times as not....you don't even know who you are. You don't even know you met a need.

I have only been here for a very short period of time and I don't know too many people here. I believe there are many great heroes here. For me, Tall Allen is my hero. He didn't only answer me here but PM. He support me both mentally and knowledgeably with great patient! Thanks Allen, from the bottom of my heart!

Purgatory, You have contributed 25 THOUSAND posts? darn, you are in your own universe of admiration. Cheer, cheer!

While I am limited in my realm of personal experience, I have to cite Tall Allen as my hero. He has provided facts and links that I have used to successfully dissuade men with low risk profiles on other forums from rushing into surgery. There are many aspects to dealing with our PCa, and not being pushed into overtreatment by the first uro that you speak with is one that has become a "cause" for me.

There are, of course. many heroes here, and I hope to hear many such posts.

Well, this is amusing. I tried multiple times to begin my second sentence with "darn", and it was posted as "darn".

Seriously, I thought that this issue of proper language was settled in 1939, when Clark Gable was finally cleared to say "d-a-m-n" in a major film. This type of automatic editing is ridiculous, and needs to be changed.

EDIT: Frankly, Scarlett, this software needs major updating. It ain't 1938 anymore.

i do read posts here sometimes, my issue is more hormonal, thus i do not post. but you all look out for each other, that's what it is all about. purgatory has a yr on me. but my 20k is approaching!!!

I think for me, no heroes here, but lots of people i consider real life friends. But if i had to pick one guy, it would be Sonny. His attitude in the face of adversity, is awe inspiring.

Many heroes here. I agree with Prat....Sonny has the best attitude under adversity. TA does a remarkable job with a knowledge base that is remarkable for a non-medical person. Lastly....I always was inspired by Zufus. I miss not seeing his posts.

I still maintain that everyone here is a hero in one way or another, although, indeed, some like Tall Allen may stand out especially.

But there is one member of our forum here who has not been mentioned yet, who will absolutely qualify for hero status in anyone's book, if he handles well the extraordinary challenges that he now faces, as I am very confident that he will.

Let's not forget our forum brother compiler (Mel), and what he is now dealing with following his spinal injury.

Not only must he demandingly exert himself daily now both physically and mentally to regain the use of his limbs, but he will for now likely need to put thoughts of dealing with PCa on hold, as the demands of his present situation take priority.

If he does indeed overcome the challenges that now face him, as I sincerely believe he will, then he, if anyone, deserves a PCa hero's Medal of Honor with Oak Leaf Cluster..

Definitely, you are ALL my heros.
Just want to give my shout outs to the HW creator Peter Waite, to Tony Crispino, also to my Brother from another Mother, Todd Seals-Rock Star, and very special man,Jordan Pennington(RIP) .. Just want to recognize just a few others that I really look up to Purgatory-David,25000 posts indeed.! Tall Allen -the info man, ISU CYCLONE-Darin-the author of encouragement, In the Shop-Andrew-the poet/blogger, Nomar Lupron-Jim-and also-Compiler-Mel, you both hang in there, Pratoman, Gary and Beth celebrating life, Mr Paxton-special man, Goats, 81Gy Guy, Rockfords and Redwings-Jerry, JackH , Bolo-please come back,so many more, anyone with Advanced PC with Mets. , yes trully you are all my heros and what makes me come back to HW everyday for support ,encouragement and hope, and as always, keep the faith
