I am subscribed to AHRQ and received an email regarding the draft statement this morning. Here is summary statement from the page linked in the email:
/screeningforprostatecancer.org/"...Men who are considering screening deserve to be aware of what the science says so they can make the best choice for themselves, together with their clinician. We encourage you to read our materials explaining these draft recommendations, and we welcome your feedback."
This sounds positive for encouraging shared decision making. Reading the draft statement hints that they are still reluctant about
screening, and sends mixed signals by their own standard grade definition.
/www.uspreventiveservicestaskforce.org/Page/Document/RecommendationStatementDraft/prostate-cancer-screening1When you hover the cursor over the "C" on the draft statement, it says the USPSTF recommends against routinely providing this services. Clicking on the "C" for the 55 to 69 age group reveals slightly different wording.
Some may insist the two statements are saying the same thing, but the variability in wording can imply doubt given the C grade.
I choose to celebrate the proposed change in stated policy, and the potential for it to improve shared decision making.
