Diet after treatment

It's been almost 6 years since my RP and as of my last PSA reading 9 months ago, my PSA is undetectable. After 1 year of PSA readings every 3 months and one year at every 6 months, I've been on a schedule of annual readings, which limits the number of run up bouts of PSA anxiety I need to go through.

My post surgery pathology report is Gleason 6, PT2c, no extraprostatic extension, negative margins and no seminal vesicle involvement. All pretty favorable according to my surgeon and the MSKCC nomograms. Still, I find myself fairly obsessed with my diet and eliminating those things associated with higher rates of PCa and/or PCa recurrence or progression.

As one recent thread highlighted, there are studies that show conflicting data and conclusions regarding what is "good" and what is "bad" for guys like us. I have eliminated red meat, dairy and egg yolks, although as we eat out so many meals, I am sure I am ingesting some dairy and egg yolks that are hidden in restaurant food despite asking that none be used. My father had PCa, although he was diagnosed at 70 while I was diagnosed at 53. He's still alive at 83 and eats pretty much what he likes in terms of ingredients, although watching his weight.

Wondering how other guys approach this.

Odds are good that Prostate Cancer is no longer a concern.

You should fuggedaboutit. After 6 years, eat what you want.

Sadly, i am becoming obsessed about the same thing. I have been trying to stay away from meat, poultry, cheese and egg yolks. Cheese is hard

I once sat down with my doctor and started to map out a new diet. After 15 minutes I summarized:

"If it tastes good, and I like it, I can't eat it."

She agreed. So now I only eat food I hate.

No sex, no dry underwear, no certainty PCa is gone, no steaks, no chicken, no scotch, no Italian food....and now no cheese. :-(

....so no pizza!

I may not live longer, but it's sure gonna feel longer.....

Frack - you should try my diet. They call it the "see food" diet. If I see food, I am likely to eat it.

Kidding aside, I have followed a low-fat, low-sodium diet for decades now (for other medical reasons), and I see no reason to change it. I just don't believe that diet can have any significant effect on cancer if one is already eating a sensible, relatively healthy diet. Especially with PCa, I don't believe that eating a lot of any food or none of a food will make any difference at all.

A pretty knowledgeable doc friend told me - the only proven diet that helps fight cancer is :
Super large doses of laughter and happiness ...and he was being serious with data to prove.
Go figure !
