Had my first visit with the new MO today. It went well. Set me up for MRI and bone biopsy to determine if the bone met is really PCa or just a bone island. Feeling good about this guy. He's taking diagnostics seriously and not just blowing me off because my PSA is low although rising. Discussed many recent studies which he was clearly knowledgeable of including the ADT with Zytiga study. Problem he described is that it isn't FDA approved and therefore insurance won't cover. At $10k/month for Zytiga, he indicated that ADT with Taxotere would be covered so will recommend if bone met is confirmed after biopsy. Of course hoping the biopsy is negative and PSA can be relied upon as best indicator of progression but he has plenty of patients who have low PSA and advanced disease. We should hopefully know one way or another by months end. Wish me luck and will keep you posted. At least this guy is action oriented as opposed to the MO at Moffitt who suggested active surveillance until metastasis is confirmed. Too passive an approach for my comfort level.
