The approval of Novartis AG’s breakthrough therapy for a deadly form of leukemia opened the door to a new class of treatments even as its $475,000 price tag reignited the debate on how to value potentially life-saving drugs.

My wife was on a monthly drug that was scheduled for 10 years at about $96k per year....so nearly a cool mill. It wouldn't cure anything, just hopefully prevent her breast cancer from returning. In June this year they used a new test that indicated it would no longer offer her any meaningful protection so it was stopped.

She was on for 7 years so nearly $700k....plus the costs of the initial treatments of surgery, chemo and radiation.

And we wonder why health insurance is so costly.
