After several years of the "traditional" treatments for aggressive disease, my husband tried Aberiterone last fall, and had to take hydrocortisone simultaneously. When it was clear the Aberiterone wasn't working, he started tapering off the hydrocortisone, but that's a very difficult drug to discontinue. He went for the Provenge in December 2016 through Moores Cancer Center in San Diego, CA because it looked like the combo with Keytruda offered hope. He had a very caring oncologist here in San Diego, J. Michael Randall, MD. He was also a patient of Mark Scholz, MD in Marina Del Rey who administered the Keytruda beginning in January or February, I think. Honestly, IDK what to think of the Provenge/Keytruda. I think the combination of going off the hydrocortisone and the disease taking off and then the Provenge/Ketruda messed up his system badly IMO, and he had continued adrenal crisis in April and May. Sadly, the disease took off at the same time and he lost the battle in June. It's been devastating. I've seen Keyruda commercials on tv recently - it's hard to watch because he had just about
all the side effects they go through in their disclaimers. I guess the reason for my post is because he wouldn't have done the Provenge except that Keytruda looked promising. Tread lightly if you go that route.
