Biopsy results are back and were positive, so the doctor is happy about that. He suspects that it is just in the prostate lining only due to the PSA being so low at .24. He’s having him go for a 3D ultrasound just to be safe tho and also scheduling an appointment with the oncologist as well. He is predicting radiation and possibly hormones as well.
For those who aren’t up on out story my dad had a RP 5 years ago and has been good. PSA was .1 in April and doctor said if it went up anymore at next checkup he was digging in. It went to .24 in October and doctor felt a bump on prostate bed. He wanted biopsy to be positive so that we knew that was where it was.

Ok then, so it sounds like you have a plan for more treatment. Consider adding a signature containing details like post op pathology. What was his Gleason sore, and did they "get it all" as they like to say? ( Obviously not, but just wondering what they were expecting these last 5 years). Any way, good luck with any upcoming treatments!

He had 19 samples taken in 2012 before RP. 5 were positive 4 being rated a 7 and then be an 8 all on one side off the prostate. The other side was clear except for a suspicious area. It was contained, no lymph nodes affected and margins were clear, scans were normal. Hope that helps!

As long as it still in the prostate (sounds like it is), then RT will zap it away just fine. Ask the RO about the possibility of using HT with it. Not sure it's really needed.

I am just very paranoid about the possibility of it spreading. Know the doctor said that he believes it’s just there in the prostate bed lining due to the bump being small and the PSA only being .24 and he gets his checkups all of the time. His MRI is scheduled for Nov 21 and we will get those results Nov 29. He will then see the oncologist Dec 5. He said he feel sick a bit achy around his stomach and chest since the biopsy, however, he is 71 and his retirement job is very physical! Just a few days ago he was shoveling mulch. He wants to stay active and not sit around but we keep telling him to do something not so physical.

The urologist did mention that they may use HT with the radiation. I love talking to all of you, you are so helpful and knowledgable!

I wouldn't be surprised if a HT recommendation is given. The initial Gleason score would justify that although that might affect his activity level, still being very active during RT is a good thing as it helps avoid some of the SEs.

The good thing is winter is very close here in Indiana so his physical labor is just about over until spring. Every year he says will be his last but then he keeps at it. He likes the activity and working with his buddies. I told him his retirement job is way harder than the job he retired from! Ha! He was asking me about radiation and if affected the bowel and if it would be painful. I have tried researching it and most have said they just get tired.

RT isn't painful. It's boring: take off your pants, lie on the table, put pants back on, repeat day after day...

It can affect the bowel, but most don't have a problem. Fatigue is a problem that some face (I did). exercise helps prevent this.

If it had escaped the lining are the next likely spots hip and lower back? I just can’t find much to research with reccurence at .24 bump on prostate bed and that kind of thing.

PC does often go to the bones. Spine is one place, but almost anywhere is possible. You situation is a bit different, so it's hard to say.

In any case, a met won't cause a problem until the PSA is much higher and likely won't even show on a scan until it gets somewhere closer to 4.0.

You're very far from that. I'd focus on getting through the RT.

Ok! That is somewhat of a relief. I assume then after radiation the goal is for PSA to go back to undetectable. I wonder why they even do the MRI then.

Dad had his biopsy last Wednesday and the last few days he’s had a bad stomach ache. He thinks he might have an infection from it or something. I know deep down he’s thinking cancer has spread. He’s going to see his GP in about an hour.
