Had the Nurse consult today. This was the "PRE" implant consult. They want me to stop "ALL" herbals. I take about
12 herbs daily instead of "pharmacuticals" for the joint issues.
Seems like all is well. Give it another several weeks and as "In the Shop" often says.................It will just be a memory...........................or something like that.
May all beings be well and share in the blessings springing from the good I have done.
Yea I played crib the other day and still didn't find that 4th five.............................Dam....................

Sounds like you're on track, Roger. Yep, they do tell us to stop lots of meds/herbals prior to and sometimes during treatment, but the whole thing is over so soon you won't notice the short-term loss.
As for the marker implant procedure, that was the most "memorable" part of the whole process for me. I had only a valium and some topical numbing gel to mask the pain. I spent the entire 10 minutes of the procedure telling bad jokes through my clenched teeth. Not fun, but for that short duration, I felt that I could handle almost anything. . . and I did. The planning scans and even the treatments themselves were non-issues for me.
Now, just over a year later, I'm not even sure I would recognize the doc who poked me "down there" if I passed him in the hallway. . .
BTW - Are you sure that all four 5's were in that deck before you started with it?

You know Paxton several times I have asked my Crib partner that exact question and he says "we don't need to check" Hmmmmmm?
The Doc that is going to do the implants uses a general. I don't care either way. I could take it or leave it so just decided to do it the way the Doc wants to do it.
It's kinda like waiting for Christmas when I was a kid.
May all beings be well.

Hi Roger.....I believe you will be glad for the general anesthesia when the implants are done. Mine was done under general and it was performed via the transperineal route. With the anesthesia, of course I didn't feel anything, however, there obviously was considerable trauma to the area evidenced by the significant bruising and soreness in the area afterward. I would assume if the placement is done through the rectum, it might be more similar to the biopsy. Someone who experienced that can chime in and provide those details.
You are getting close and the waiting will be over soon. Honestly, as I've mentioned before, most of the time the actual treatments are pretty much a non-event, particularly as compared with all the testing, procedures, and multitude of enemas prior to the treatment. I wish you the best my friend.

3-5s,good for you with sleeping thru the procedure. I was put to sleep for my biopsy. I was wide awake for my implants.Big mistake. lots of pain. I was swearing at the Dr. First a big round unit up the keister then the transperinneial stuff up that area. No thanks. Lots of pain.I dont give a rats ass if the pain is just temporary.I dont need that. But thats me.I told Dr. Ruffer, actually his name, next time I want to sleep thru it. Laughter from him. I didnt want to jump or flinch when this was going on but i did. Your Dr. is doing you a great service to you. Good luck, and pleasant dreams. JJ

3-5s,I thought you might of known that bounces are very normal with radiation . It might take up to 5 yrs to reach nadir, where your psa stays put. Hit the search bar for SBRT radiation bounces.

Yes I have read that bounces can be normal.....was just checking with you in that yours are normal.
Personally I am not much of a "worrier" so will be fine with the PSA waiting game.
Be well my friends. I will come back on after the placements and scans next week.

0311 - Dr. Ruffer is the same Doc who did my marker implant. He owes me big time, as his first "poke" missed the mark, so I actually had that darned needle poked into my nether regions three times for the two strings of implants. I managed to get through it with only the topical, because I told myself that after all the anxiety and fear I encountered in choosing my treatment, the implant procedure was the last unpleasant step between me and completion of my treatment. Neither the planning scans nor the treatments themselves were any real bother.
Roger - As 0311 said, many radiation patients experience PSA bounce as he has. So far, I have not, but I am experiencing another very common PSA result - that of a very slow, gentle decline in PSA over time. Mine started at 5.69 at diagnosis, 1 month post-treatment it was 4.75. Then at 4 months it was 3.03; 7 months, 2.86; 10 months, 2.15. Dr. Hirsch (the RO both 0311 and I have used) and I agree that in my case, we are perfectly happy with the results. Even if I take several years to reach nadir (to bottom out), as long as I do not see a reversal of the trend, we are pleased.

3-5s, this will be your x-mas present. SBRT done. Your choice was a good one,as we all make our own decisions as to treatment. Keep in touch. SemperFi,John

You will hear from me next Saturday, if not sooner, as my implants and scans are thursday and friday.
Be well all.
