Greetings from chilly Athens, Georgia. I want to report that is was 7 years ago today that my uro called with the biopsy results. That was the first time I had heard of a 'Gleason' score. I remember him saying the two things that worried him was my age (60 at the time) and my Gleason score of 9. I asked him what should we do next and we arranged a meeting. I went into the bathroom and experienced a "knee shaking" for the first and only time in my life. I mean the knee cap was bouncing up and down uncontrollably! It settled down and so did I.
So after 7 years of treatments including surgery, EBRT, ADT, Zytiga, Xtandi, Xgeva, Provenge, I am happy to report that I feel OK and am able to enjoy life. My PSA is slowly rising, 1.63, with the next lab tomorrow. I accepted the new normal (medically, they call it a base line at MDA) and am grateful that I am able to see my grandkids growing. I have become an advocate/support person of sorts for other men who get this disease. I am awaiting a call from a man who is headed to MDA tomorrow. I have been the support for probably 10 guys. I guess that is my purpose in life. I was interviewed once and was in the local paper.
January 8th seems to be a date in my life when something happens.
8 Jan 1970 was when I stood on the yellow footprints at MCRD San Diego. (Marines will know what this is)
My sweet grandmother died on January 8, 1995
The call came on January 8, 2011.
Men, know that there are many effective treatments out there. Newbies-Don't freak out!
Maybe something good will happen today, January 8, 2018, like a UGA Bulldawg win tonight in Atlanta!
