I became very clear yesterday the impact my cancer has on those around me. My first wife is on life support and our two daughters will make the decision to end life support. My oldest daughter broke down and said "I can't lose both parents". I reacted and told her that will be cured and that she is stuck with me for a long time. She replied that she needed to hear that.

That is the first time I have used the cure word. Not sure how much I believe it but it was the right thing to say.

Sad day for out family and I will pay attention to not adding worry to those around me. Denis

Denis - Just wanted to say I'm onboard for a cure also that's what I tell my grandson !!!! Sounds like your gonna have a tough time coming up with your daughter's losing their mom. Just wanted to let you know we are here to listen and support you when needed. Let's go for a cure like the eagles went for the win yesterday!!!

One of the hardest things when confronting our own mortality is considering the impact on those we leave behind. I have to beat this beast because my family still needs me! I know I needed my dad, who was my best advisor on just about everything from investments to plumbing and car repair.

One consolation is the PCa does not take you quickly, unlike some other cancers. A year ago my wife's uncle was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and a month later he was gone!

Just how and when to inform our two adult sons that I had cancer two years ago was one of the more difficult questions I faced at the time. We were already in the process of vacating their childhood home and moving away for our retirement. Less than a year later, we had to tell them that their mother also has stage 4 lymphoma. One of them is overseas and we had to let him know by email. Tough way to learn about it.

My sympathy to you both for the losses in your families.

We don't have any kids but we've been on the other side of the equation - losing parents. My in-laws were precious people that accepted me as one of their own (my mother was a paranoid, angry person late in life). It was devastating losing my mom-in-law a few years ago and realizing my wife and I were both orphans. I think about them often.

It’s OK to ease the angst of loved ones to use the word ‘cured’, as long as you understand that the word ‘contained’ is more accurate.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Just wanted to let you know that I was thinking about you and your family. As a daughter of a man dealing with advanced PCa I think you did the right thing considering the circumstances. Advances in treatment are being made every day so you're most probably right... you will be around for a long time yet.

Denis, sorry to hear about your family situation. You seem like a very strong person and must put the burden of the family on your shoulders. Family needs a rock to lean on every once in while! I am sure its is not the first time you have done this! Best of luck with your family and your health. A cure would be nice for all of us! You're in my prayers, brother! yeah

Thanks, everyone. She passed a few hours ago and my daughters are ok. I have my second HDRBT tomorrow morning or I would be with them. I hope to see them later in the week. Again thanks for your thoughts and kind words. Denis
