So my Dad went to the Zytiga clinic today, just for his monthly check up. He’s been on the Zytiga for 1 month now. All ok, potassium levels a little low so that needs to be monitored. However, I got a bit of a shock because they said psa had gone down from 250 (2/3weeks ago) to 220. The reason I’m shocked is because the last I heard, it was 70.
So basically we are looking at a huge increase within a short space of time. It’s difficult as I have to go off the information my parents give me but I think it was around 70 in November. They weren’t given any other figures after that. He had a one off radiotherapy session in December, continued with his Zoladex injections and waited to start Zytiga. Was a tough month.
I’m not going to dwell on the fact it’s high... it’s going down so I’m focusing on that. I’ve read some people’s response to Zytiga has been even quicker... does a drop of 30 in what I think is 2/3weeks give us any idea of how successful Zytiga will be for him?
I also don’t quite understand psa velocity. I understand that an increase of more than 0.5ng/ml per year is considered to be of some concern. I’m fully aware that the increase we are talking about
here is vast... But what does it actually mean? I’m presuming the cancer is very active at this point and the rate it increases is indicative of how aggressive it is. I apologise for what may seem a daft question, I could just do with some clarification.
Will keep you updated. Onwards and let’s hope downwards in PSA terms... Let’s hope next month it drops even more. Hope you’re all doing ok
