7 weeks today Post SBRT

Seven weeks ago today I finished my SBRT. Just thought I would post how things are going.

The treatment itself was a breeze. Started having some difficulty with urination, flow as well as discomfort/pain. I had some flow issues going in to the TX so it was no surprise to have the additional issues during and after TX. I have been taking 2 .4mg Tamsulosin and 2 95mg Phenazopyridine daily. I also started on Jan 2nd taking an herb called Pygeum. This on a recommendation from my Uro as he said it will help shrink a large prostate.

I had been getting up once a night to pee and would have a slower flow and more discomfort in the evening. Over the last 10 days or so I have not had to get up at night and the flow and discomfort have been improving. about 5 days ago I halved the two medications daily and continued with the herb. Didn't really notice any increase in symptoms so yesterday I stopped both drugs completely. So far I am doing fine. Yes, the flow is reduced but I can still get a stream going a foot or two out there and the discomfort is just that, a little discomfort not pain. I am also now allowing myself a little alcohol late afternoon/evening. Drink of choice is usually red wine.

So I have 3 weeks to wait for the first PSA test and testosterone with my PCP and then two weeks later with mu Uro. Then on the 19th of March I will have the 90 day consult by phone with the RO nurse from Swedish Medical where I had the SBRT performed.

All in All I am very pleased with my treatment choice and with the way things are going so far.

Great report, Roger. Over a little more time, I discovered that one simply gets used to a "new normal" regarding certain feelings. Nothing bad or particularly uncomfortable, just different. After all, when you have been functioning for many decades, you know your body and how everything feels. So a little different is not really a problem and it sounds like you are progressing quite well. What a blessing to be successfully treated for such a terrible disease and have such minor issues as a consequence. It really makes one aware how fortunate we have been to have been a candidate for SBRT and also for the fine people on this board who who selflessly educate and provide ideas and guidance to complement the medical professionals. Mr. Tarp hits the nail on the head, after the initial few weeks, things are just fine but a little different. The sensation when my bladder is full, not quite baseline with stream and the ability to make objects levitate are all tolerable side effects of SBRT. All the best.
