It's now 17 days from my brachytherapy and I'm finally feeling an overall improvement.

Just 3 days ago I booked a doctor's appointment because of a lot of discomfort when sitting down. However, the next morning I cancelled the appointment. Sitting at the computer and not kneeling was suddenly possible. Sitting in general was also much easier.

I still have is penile discomfort (spasms) but only later in the day and especially when going to bed. Yesterday, in the late afternoon and without any alcohol I noticed the pain developing. I took an Ibuprofen and 30 minutes later it was not as noticeable. I then had a beer. This too may be resolving itself. Soon I may even try red wine again.

The only time I have a problem urinating is at night when the stream is difficult, weak and intermittent. This too may be changing. Last night I didn't need to get up as frequently but the flow was still weak.

Any fatigue now is a distant memory.

I too have the same symptoms at night as you describe. Glad to know I am not alone. Still taking Flomax but wonder what will happen when I stop. I am just past my three weeks, 21 days, since the implant. Brachtherapy. Last night I got up four times about two hours apart. Urination was as you described. Annoying. Most nights it is three times although at times only two.

The Perineum discomfort varies over time during the day. After urinating or a BM it is significantly less. Walking seems to help. Any improvement is slow and subtle and not sure that on occasion it's back to square one. I am keeping a diary of sorts and reading it I am not able to spot a pattern.

I agree we are all different to some degree and am wondering how long until this is a thing of the past. The seeds that were used were Palladium with a half life of 17.3 days. I will be meeting with the doctor next Wednesday and not sure what to expect from him at that time. Obviously I have some questions for him.

My seeds were Iodine 125 with a half life of about 59 days.

At some point our path to recovery will differ and I suspect your recovery will be much quicker.

Coming to the end of the 4th week since the implant. Although it has been slow, and sometimes inconsistent, I am feeling more normal. Still some discomfort in the Perineum area. With one exception, in the last four days urine flow is getting closer to what it was before the operation.

The only change in the last week is when I am taking Flomax. Rather than at bed time I now take it right after dinner.

One question for the doc when I seem him Wednesday is will the procedure have any effect on BPH. Or, is it just what comes with age. Second question is how to get off Flomax.

This web site has been helpful and has provided good ideas on what to expect. I plan to suggest it to the doc for his other patients.

According to John Sylvestor, MD, one of the best at brachytherapy, 1/3 of men will have an improvement in their BPH, 1/3 will have no change and 1/3 will get worse.

Overall, my BPH as been a little better after 6 years after my brachytherapy. My case is not typical though since a large part of my problem is having a large median lobe.
