Hello to anyone reading
I am updating because if testing for prostate cancer and the road that it takes to get to this point isn't stressful enough, we have had an interesting day.
My husband had an MRI scheduled at 7:30am today at Duke Cancer Center in Durham, NC. We live about
45 minutes from there. We have small children, so finding childcare for that early in the morning was difficult. We have no family near us. My mother was going to drive in (a 3 hour drive) but now has the flu. So, we wake the kids up and take them with us, leaving before the sun is up.
All goes well, the cancer center is very nice....and then the 1.5 hour mark rolls around. I start getting ancy, because we were told it would take 45 minutes at most. Finally, a nurse came out to tell me my husband had an allergic reaction to the contrast dye they injected...like throat swelling, sneezing, hives reaction. They had to start another IV and give him benadryl in it....this was on top of the 10mg of Valium he already down before the procedure. He was so out of it he could't stand.
Oh, let me mention he is on year 6 of sobriety. So, yeah....
5 hours later....we were back home and his is passed out. It's very tough seeing your husband go through this. He said the coil was more than just uncomfortable...that it was extremely painful. In fact, it is still hurting 12 hours after the MRI.
Anyways, it wasn't the ideal MRI...not that an MRI at a cancer center for your prostate could ever be ideal...but I thought maybe someone would get a chuckle or nod their head with the circus that this feels like to me.
Tomorrow is a new day...
Thank you for anyone who listens and I'm grateful for this forum.
