In the beginning, I always obtained my test results during a doctor visit, although I could have picked up the results from the hospital prior to seeing my doctor. I was extremely nervous every visit waiting for the doctor to give me the verdict. It was so unnerving because the doctor would never give me the results first thing. He would review other things first. I realize now, especially if the news wasn't good, that he did that because he knew I wouldn't have heard anything else he had to say. Now I pick up the results prior to visiting my doctor. But I am still quite nervous as I sit in the car and open the envelope. Even though the results have been good news the past couple of years, it is still very stressful each and every time I open that envelope. My wife was with me the last time I obtained my results. As we sat in the car and opened the envelope, she saw how nervous I was and said she had no idea what I was going through. Usually, I picked up the results and called her with the news, so she didn't get to see that moment. The point is, for me, the doctor's visits are pretty un-dramatic, it is the test results, no matter how they are received, that cause the stress.
