Holy cow! Somehow I had missed this possible- or apparent from this thread- SE of RP, to ad to the long list. I had no idea.
I have had the problem on and off really for years, but seemingly more noticeable since RP. The main problem finding a middle ground between not enough and too much.
But for the last year or so, even though I eat more fiber- AND take more fiber supplements- than I have for my entire life, I have the "too little" problem way more than ever. I had been blaming it on my intermittent fasting, but after reading this thread I am starting to wonder!
I don't have a lot of luck with the stool softeners, unless I take like 4 at once. The WM brand of Milk of Magnesia for sure gets the job done over night, so far every time. But I have read that this is not something I want to do on a regular basis, so I really try to limit that to only if really needed, or no more than once a week. Worked again, like a charm, this morning after taking 2 tablespoons at bedtime. First time I took the full dose of 4 tablespoons, and that almost took it too far!
I guess I am going to have to look into this Miralax. Do you suppose our RP surgery really has worsened this condition? I do remember that I had the by far worse hemorrhoid flare up after my RP, even though I had very soft stool de to the softeners they had me on. I told my surgeon that I was blaming it on all the swelling. He told me NO, it was all him, they see that all the time due to - I think he said- some vessel they have to cut. Thanks a lot for the heads up!
PS: you guys that take the softener pills, do you need to take a lot of water with them? The directions on mine(senosides) don't mention needing a lot of water.
