Have not met with uro. Scheduled for surgery next week

We have our first visit with our uro this Thursday, to discuss our post biopsy pathology report.
Dan looked at his “ portal” this weekend and he is scheduled for surgery May 4th. shakehead
Friday Dan called a radiology oncologist and we have an appointment on Friday. So much for “you have to have a referral”.

In the good news department dan is signed up for Medicare G plan which will enable us to get
the hell out of Dodge on July 1st.
Thanks for the help here. We would be having that surgery if I had not found you guys.

Very smart to look at all possible therapies. Your husband definitely has options.

Take your time. I am correct in thinking that you were scheduled for surgery before you spoke with a urologist? If so, that's ridiculous. There is no reason to rush into surgery or any treatment until you've had a chance to talk to multiple doctors and do your research until your are comfortable with a treatment plan. I was rushed into surgery, thinking that because it's cancer, time must be of the essence. Turns out that with prostate cancer, you have time to study, research, and reflect.

Yup, take your time to feel fully comfortable with your treatment choice. Your uro was using what the marketing people call the "presumptive close." He scheduled your surgery so that when he tells you all about his great surgical record, he can tell you "We can get you in on XXX." That way it is easy for some folks to just say "OK." Not you, though.

You may ultimately choose surgery, but not so fast. You will, I predict, look into various modes of treatment and choose the one you feel is best for you. You will fell better for having done so.

Your G4+3 would indicate to most of us that treatment is definitely in your future, but you are still intermediate risk (albeit the unfavorable variety), and you have many treatment options.

Kit, so, to get this right..your urologist, who has yet to actually sit down with you to go through the diagnosis, has scheduled your husband for surgery a week from Friday. I had a vague hope that sort of thing was moving into the past. Wow. I trust you'll go in on Thursday and politely but firmly say thanks, but no thanks.

And then, get yourself appointments with specialists somewhere else.

Totally agree with Prato on this one...Actually I would show up with a tuxedo...and pee my pants in front of em all...and then give em a Rick Flair "whoooo" ... and strut out head high shoulders square... but hey...again...thats just me.... tongue

I like Prato's idea better. Smile sweetly when he tells you that you're on the schedule--and then don't show. And make sure your phone has his number on 'ignore'.

As much as the "no show" idea appeals to my inner evil self it's probably not a good idea. Depending on what you may have signed, you may incur charges based on the scheduling of staff and operating room. Take the high road and cancel ahead of time.

Kit, are you near a major treatment center like MSKCC, Hopkins, Cleveland, UCLA, MD Anderson? All of them will see your husband and can give you good advice. I would agree that with this aggrssive a uro not showing could lead to charges. I would make sure you keep a copy of their acknowledgement of your cancellation.

I want to believe this is a massive misunderstanding. We had a two minute phone conversation with our uro when he told us about the path report. We said then “we want this out”. He does not realize we have done
research since that call. We did call two weeks ago and asked for a referral to an ro. Dan received a message in his portal denying the referral. This is an md you cannot contact.

All I want from this visit is a stage for dan’s ca. It is not on the path report?

We just received a letter asking for 1k upfront for the surgery. Dan had a call from the scheduler and dan cancelled the surgery.

Sorry this is so disjointed. I dread this meeting.

I really cannot believe he would think surgery is appropriate?
Dan keeps saying “first do no
harm”.

So, we see ro on Saturday. We found one who would take us without referral.
My sis lives in md so Hopkins is a possibility.
