Hello,
I am looking for help for my 87 year old dad. 11 years ago he had a bad reaction to anesthesia and was left unable to speak/read/write and with right arm paralysis.
Flash forward to now---he began having some incontinence issues and went to URO for cystoscopy. He came home with a Foley catheter and it gave him an awful infection. He was in the hospital 5 days and it really did a number on him.
Now we have to decide what procedure to do so that he can void and his kidneys will not be harmed.
We are afraid of anesthesia of course. He is also on blood thinners. His PCP said a suprapubic catheter would be the safest thing.
Can anyone who's had one tell me if the operation is very painful? Is it tough to live with? Having only one functioning arm I wonder if it will be tough for him to clean. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you. M
