May to Oct it went fast. 1 week checkup after surgery.

Well we waited 6 weeks to do another test and results came back 11.18 up a little from 11.03
My symptoms of urinating all the time has seem to get better but I still have urinating issues just not all the time . I'm 52 and my dad had Prostate Cancer and was treated fine and is 83 years old..I believe his cancer was at the age of 70. I Remeber him telling me he sat in a cast, once a day for 30 days to get some type of pinpoint treatment.
Well the doctor suggest a biopsy. Is that the choice I should take? Believe she will take 12 samples..Any help appreciated.

Well, you're past the unpleasant part. Make sure to really push the water the next few days, to keep the blood clots flushed out. Be prepared for bloody semen for the next few weeks--it will gradually turn almost black. After you get the report, come back and share it with us.

Probably, what they saw protuding the bladder is what is called "third lobe". It is sometimes found in large prostates due to BPH. It does not mean that there is suspicious malignant tissue invading the bladder. If they find any PCa, it will not have anything to do with this issue. Also, your urinary symptoms are probably caused by BHP as well.
However, your PSA density around 0.15 and the family history justify the biopsy. You will be ensured if the results are negative and PSA does not increase further for a long time. Good luck.

Maybe I missed it, but I am a little surprised no one suggested a Prostate MRI before the biopsy to help locate suspicious areas


Regardless, the biopsy is done, so the MRI would have to be postponed until the prostate heals from the biopsy.


The problem if it was a blind biopsy from a typical 12 core pattern, it doesn't necessarily exclude PCa, which is why the MRI would be valuable information to have.

As others have mentioned there are also other reasons for a high PSA including prostatitis, BPH, etc.

I hope the biopsy is negative, but if they can't determine the reason for the high PSA, you may want to ask your doctor for a prostate MRI

The only reasons to bother with an mpMRI is if suspicion remains after a first negative TRUS biopsy, or to confirm low risk for men who want to go on active surveillance.

Ok last night got a fever of 101.9 kinda bounced up and down from 99.8. So I remember the nurse saying any fever get to hospital after biopsy..so off I went at 2 am. Did have an infection. I got home about 430 am..
Long story short I got my results and 3 of the 12 tested positive. I guess the good out of it is Gleason 6.
That's about all I know will be heading for consultation on monday..
One question, is the Gleason score usually correct? Should I get secound opion? Heck live in Mn and the Mayo clinic is only 3 hours away.
What happens with the enlarge postate that does cause pelvic pain?.it just seems uncomfortable at times. I get pain lower back and upper groin area. Sometimes the nerve seems to fire off down my right leg.
What about my Psa can I get that down somehow? 11.18 from 11.03.

Sorry you had to deal with the infection.

A G6 puts you in AS land - Mayo is good for that.

The Gleason score is usually accurate, but a second opinion is always good. Sometime the result is upgraded, some times not. Confirmation is always good.

G6 is the second best result you can get from a biopsy. However, as it also happens with negative biopsies, it is possible that something else has been missed since the extracted random cores are only a tiny fraction of the prostate. I hate to mention that a significant part of pathological studies after surgery result in upgrades.
With your G6 you can go directly to treatment (an "advantage" with respect to a negative result) or you can be included in a AS program. In the latter case, be sure the program includes periodic mpMRI and biopsies to detect if there is something more significant to treat.
But, first of all, enjoy your vacation. Sadly, my only "stay" in Alaska has been a few hours scale in the Anchorage airport many years ago.

Having 3 or less positive G6 cores fulfills two of the AS criteria. However, under some protocols, you also need PSA < 10 ng/ml and cancer involvement < 50% for each core. Your PSA is over 10.

However, different institutions have different protocols and given you are a G6, you have time to think about it. Enjoy your cruise.

OK a little bit of update. Well the doc is going to send my samples to a genetic testing center something like Genomix..They will check the DNA of the cancer strain. It's basically to see the risk of the cancer to see if it's a high risk? So it's going to take 2 to 3 weeks to get the results back of the DNA of that cancer strain. I'll be doing the MRI in about 8 to 10 weeks once I fully heal from the biopsy. So then with both the genetic testing and the MRI will address the next steps...I did ask about secound option and referrals she has no problem with what ever my decision is..So at this point I will wait for the results of the DNA testing and the MRI..Any opinions???
She also stated at a young age the a postate this size 83 with radiation it would make it like cement and if cancer reappears you more than likely would have to do a salvage removal of the prostate and a hardened prostate causes a lot of issues if you need to remove it....she might of said it a tad different but similar to how I put it...I tried to write most down but my mind was racing so I could be off on what she said.. Any thoughts?
