I have to believe there are a bunch of people here who are on blood pressure meds, and Valsartan (generic for Diovan) is one of the most commonly prescribed.
The FDA just announced , not sure if yesterday or today, a recall if all Valsartan and Valsartan Hydrochlorizide From 3 major manufacturers - Teva, Major, and Solco Pharmaceuticals. They found impurities in these brands, specifically, NMDA , which is a known carcinogen in humans.
My wife takes it, I looked at the bottle and sure enough, it was manufactured by Solco.
I took it back to the drug store and they exchanged it out for the same drug, made by Mylan Labs.
If you take this drug, look at the bottle and find the manufacturer.

That's scary. Not one of the ones I take, but scary that this can happen.

Thanks for the post. Here's the FDA post:

My wife takes this medicine, but I just checked and her pills are from Alembic USA and are not part of the recall.

I have been on this medication manufactured by Solco for the last 7 months. I have been switched to Lorsartan. I detest taking BP pills but my doctor convinced me I needed it...so this is what I get for being compliant! I read a Canadian article, as they are effected by this too, that no adverse effects from using this drug have been reported yet and from some animal and human studies conducted it is unlikely that is will cause harm if you've been taking it. It has been shown to cause cancer in some lab animals but the dosage is much, much higher and some of these animals have been on it for month, years and more often decades. It is still a HUGE upset as I suffer from fatty liver, just had a liver biopsy last January to confirm and this drug is also supposed to be damaging to the liver, of course!?! I completely stopped drinking any form of alcohol to help my liver only to find out I've been ingesting a toxin the entire time!!!
