First day of my IM/GRT treatment.  It has been a long road of battling insurance companies (some wins and some losses) and waiting for my enlarged prostate to reduce.  The day has finally arrived and I am looking forward to getting the treatment done and over with!  Good luck to my other brothers in arms on the board! yeah

YAY!

It's an endurance test. Be the turtle, not the hare.

Drink lots of water and walk a lot.

Hang in the, the end is only 25 treatments away.

Thanks Prat.....I think a good ATTITUDE is half the battle here! It is more of an inconvenience than anything right now as I have to drive around 45 minutes to an hour each way for RT as well! yeah   But again, I have long term goals with retirement and family....make sacrifices for a better future!

I think it sucks that insurance companies can be so difficult to deal with. I’m glad you are on a good treatment course and wish you the best. Please keep us updated on how things progress and I appreciate your posts.

Thanks convertible...I will keep you posted. Keeping my fingers crossed for minimal side effects and no reoccurrence (like everybody else here)! yeah

Good luck dell! If you're like me, you go through all the hoopla of drinking water, getting to the treatment center and then you finally lie in a machine and...10 minutes later it's all over, you feel nothing and you wonder if they really did anything.

Any of you guys take Cialis, etc. during treatment to help any type of ED???

I didn't do anything like that until after treatment because that problem didn't show up until right way.

I took Cialis, but it was more related to keeping the blood flow up while I was on ADT rather than the IMRT/brachytherapy itself.

I took Viagra on doctors suggestion for the same reason Michael T posted above.
Which MSKCC did you decide on? IIRC, you were looking in NJ. Your treatments will be over before you know it. You’ll do fine. Good luck from dbell to dbell.

Thanks for your response..... I asked the RO about Cialis and he gave me script and told me to take it daily with the start of treatment (no harm no foul, I guess)!

I did not have much of a choice on the MSKCC location as I could only use NJ with my insurance plan! My RO comes to NJ once a week so I still consider him to be a NY doctor. New modern facility in Basking Ridge with state of the art equipment etc. I am not disappointed. I was with my mom in NY at MSKCC for a long time.... Great hospital but, not really a warm friendly place.....cold and a bit depressing IMO! yeah

I had my brachy in Manhattan and my SBRT in Middletown. And I know what you mean regarding the differences between the satellites and the main facility. Best of luck in Basking Ridge

I'm taking generic viagra, now just past the halfway mark in SRT. The doc said it's quite OK to take it and have sex during the treatment. I'm lucky that my drive is shorter. Though if I went during rush hour instead of lunch time, it would be about the same.

Met a lot of nice radiology techs. Also a lot of old guys getting radiated. Most of them seem older than me. First guys I met were in their 80s.
