hello to all psa is on the move. think I should get a good scan before another ADT gut shot TA had a few free ones listed awhile back---psa was <0.01 6 mo. back 0.2 now. do I need to scan now? been on it-- FEB.2015 till now first run I got 15 mo. after 6 mo. ended This last shot I only got 6 mo. after shot ended. any help on both matters will help good day to all NEPOL

Tall Allen may have another opinion, but it is my understanding that even the most sensitive (PSMA directed) scans available today are unlikely to reveal where the cancer is hiding in your body. Also, there could be many very small metastases (micro metastases).
Nevertheless, you can check on clinicaltrials.gov whether something is available for you in a clinical protocol.

PS: It would be helpful if you would update your history since it is badly out of date.

You can get a free PSMA PET scan at NIH - I don't understand what you are saying about Lupron - the last shot was 6 months ago?

nepol...if you are on hormores, I don't think you qualify for the NIH research scan.

Good morning to all... I would up grade my signature if I could get it right. I tried it once when I got upgraded. the reason I think I want a scan..I know I have one met. they nuked it 14 gys TA wrote chemo works better early but with multiple mets. (trying to prove another met) TA it has been 11 months since 6 month shot. want to scan now while psa is on the rise. is this what to do? i still see v.a. uro. am making an appointment with the lady you recommended at stanford Sandy Srinivas. have to get into va palo alto to see her. multiple hoops to jump through. is .2 high enough for good scan? Yes, 0.2 may be enough for a PSMA scan. Stanford is at the forefront of research into new kinds of scans, so be sure to ask Dr Srinivas about it- I don't know if they charge for it, though.

When I said "multiple mets" for early chemo to have a benefit, I was referring to the CHAARTED trial where they defined it "as presence of visceral metastases and/or ≥ four bone metastases with at least one outside of the vertebral column and pelvis." One new met doesn't meet that definition. Whether zapping isolated mets confers any benefit has not yet been studied adequately.
