Hello,
I have been reading the boards since my husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer at the end of May. He is 54, African American, and his older brother had it a few years ago. His Gleason score is 9. We live in Colorado in the burbs of Denver and our PCP recommended The Urology Center of Colo. (TUCC). His PSA was 14 when he saw his MD in March. He cancelled his first apt at TUCC (workaholic!) and got in in early June. It was 18 then. I heard there can be a difference because of the lab equipment?
Our PCP recommended Dr. Juan Montoya but he was very booked up. We saw a Dr. Carpenter first and for the biopsy. He seemed very good but does not have a lot of experience. So, his surgery will be done by Dr. Mark Jones anther surgeon there. He has done over 1000 he told us. So, Davinci this Thursday. His Gleason is 9 and the cancer is on both sides. His doctor is recommending he NOT have nerve sparing done because of the presence on both sides. I believe 5 of the cores were 9, 3 were 7, and the rest were negative. We have never had a "robust" sex life but I'm trying to be hopeful we can continue to have something in that area! The most important thing is that I have him around for a very, very long time--we have been together for almost 21 years
I posted his numbers at the bottom, at least the ones I found in his profile. His bone scan and CAT did not show any spreading, which is good, right?
Do any of you have suggestions about
how I can support him during his rehab and up to the surgery? I want to be sensitive and helpful. I thought a group of guys who have been through this would know!
Thanks in advance for your help,
Kitty
