The "other" forum

The Motion Picture Association of America has a rating called PG-13 for films that may be inappropriate for pre-teens. We don't get a lot of pre-teens here but we do have a sort of an informal rating that I think of as PG-53 (we claim it is PG-ish but it's closer to R). We talk about erectile dysfunction a lot here but in a tone that resembles plumbing instructions (or in my case, small appliance repair.)

When it seems clear that a member needs to talk about the things that make sex fun we will often suggest they visit franktalk.org which is more open to the friskier aspects of dealing with ED.

Actually it has been against the rules to refer to other sites. It goes from being a rule to a guideline to a rule every few years, just depends on how members behave.

But the sites that have already been mentioned (I'm leaving the references for now) have their place. Just remember that you can not refer to any other site as an object for donations of any sort.

An example - XYZ has a PCa fun run, where they solicit donations or participant fees. You can mention the event, but you can not mention the monetary aspects, or post a link if that link page asks for money (we need that here).

I currently belong to EIGHT different prostate cancer forums.

Some are well moderated, and others are gang fights. Some are only for supporting men having surgery, and others mock, belittle, and ban anyone who has anything positive to say about surgery.

Discussing PCa treatments can be as partisan as politics. Talk of “confirmation bias” and “misery loves company” is common.

I like the “other forum” that was cited, although some members are fiercely pro-surgery, which they most exhibit in unsolicited private messages.

Bottom line, we all have our opinions, but we need to really think twice of the impact on others when we post😇

Wise comment, I would say "more than enough". Well... maybe not fair, I have learnt many things here that have been useful. Although it is important to filter opinions and understand everyone in his context and this takes time.

I agree. And, ironically, perhaps a majority of guys choosing it after all, me included.

More information though, is sometimes a double edged sword

One really good feature of this forum is that it is moderated by folks who try to be fair to all.

And there are others who consistently try to calm the waters and make newbies feel welcome.

Still another group, and one individual in particular, tries to translate medical science into language that we can understand.

This thread is also an example of another problem with on-line forums and many general internet conversations. The OP simply asked for a link to the "other" forum because of interest in reading it.

Of the replies here, only two directly answer that question. Most of the others are at best tangential to the original question.

Including this reply and in fact all my replies on this thread - well one was intended as humor/smartass.

Actually, I'm happy with ALL the replies.

First, the number of replies and breadth of the replies is a bit rewarding -- it's liked I stumbled upon a post with broader appeal than my prior posts where I just discussed and/or asked questions about my situation.

I am, and I believe most of us are who are somewhat active in postings, quite careful to process any and all responses through a variety of filters to be careful about what I take away. Having said that, being in the engineering field, I want more information to sift through than less.

It's been a busy week, so I've only spent a little bit of time looking around at some of the mentioned "other" places, and I see some familiar names elsewhere as well.

At this point, early in the "all guns blazing" first and hopefully last attack run at this G9 skirmish, I welcome other sites to read and digest, but this forum with its caring band of men and women who offer help and support as we each wage our battles will always be at the top of the list and the first site to be checked / read.

One day at a time continues -- today it was Lupron shot #2. And hopefully soon, I can actually get my upcoming planning scans for IMRT and LDR BT scheduled -- been waiting a week now,
