Hi all. got my referral to UC Davis RO thru Vet Choice program set for 8/22/18 looks like in the choice letter to me,, UCD has requested and received auth for payment for a consult and a "PET Image W/CT LMTD".. not 100% sure what the abbreviation means, but is this more entailed than the whole body bone scan and pelvic CT scan I got a couple months ago?? I looked around some and couldn't find the exact answer.. thanks for any insight.. Ed

It's a PET/CT scan - probably Axumin

Axumin=fluciclovine--It's the only one of the top 4 that's FDA approved (for recurrent pc, so you are lucky that your insurance will pay for it). Or maybe they are testing one of the others on a clinical trial.

My eyes glazed over about half way thru, but I did at least realize that the bone and pelvic ct scans that I had recently received were inferior to the PET, so they (UCD) requested this PET to get a more detailed report.. Ed

Unless they plan on sending me elsewhere, looks like UCD uses FDG for the PET/ct for tumors.. probably want to get a better image of the tumor/tumors.. Def an uneducated guess. Ed

Why are you guessing? You can just ask. FDG is pretty useless for detecting prostate metastases. Unless the tumor is really big or well-developed, it won't show up. For bone tumors, you are better off with a NaF18 PET scan than an FDG.

I'm in the process of letting VA know I have Cancer, Wanting them to out source me....
How long was your ordeal....?
Oh and a PET in far more precise than a CT....

I have been with VA for 5 years so not easy answer, in your case.. you need a trigger of some type.. Like a treatment they can't provide.. don't bank on the 30 day rule as they are under pressure nowadays to preform.. If I were you I would do what I told nepol to do.. go in and get a patient advocate.. tell him/her what your after.. they are on your side so will look out for you.. good luck.. Ed
