I am prostrate survivor for 17 years and have had a AUS for 7 years.
I went back to Cleveland Clinic last November and found I had a spastic bladder which effected the AUS.
Since using the oxybutin, the leakage as gone way done.
The more active I am the less leakage.
Anyone have experience with the life of the AUS?

Most of what I've read says the AMS800 should be replaced around 7 years or sometimes "5-10" years. At 7 years, you've had yours as long as anyone I suppose. In fact I intend to ask my Urosurgeon in January what I need to be on the lookout for, as far as when it's time to replace it. My understanding is it is not so much due to mechanical failure, but erosion of the urethra where the cuff squeezes it. Since they have to cut you
open to move it anyway, they just replace everything before it has the chance to fail.

I have had my AUS for 8 years. I have other posts about
this you will probably see asking about
revision. There are two types of need for revision? Total failure and gradual increased leakage. I have consulted with two top uros who do lots of revisions. One in Seattle and one in San Francisco. Bottom line is they tell me don't rush for another invasive surgery if your quality of life is good and the AUS is still working. It's still major surgery and who knows what can go wrong. I go through one Tena moderate pad per day. When I play golf I wear the super heavy Tena pad and depending on liquid intake I may fill it up because of stress squirts when I swing. It's just a part of my life and does not restrict anything I do.
It's simply a personal choice but even if you have a revision there is nothing to guarantee that you will be 100% dry. Most with AUS have some leakage, few are totally dry.
I'll either wait for mine to fail completely or revisit in a couple of years to see if my leakage is worse. I can provide the names of the UROs if anyone wants to check them out.
