(Purgatory: don't you live in Easley, S.C.? I assume that's far enough inland to be out of harm's way, and that flooding won't be a problem?)
Uh, no, not at all likely. We are having a party Saturday night with about
40 guests; a friend was going to fly in from RDU, so I was just on the noaa.gov site for that region, so I could quickly flip over to Greenville, SC to see the local Warnings:
A high risk exists for a prolonged torrential rainfall associated with Hurricane Florence. This may result in life threatening flash flooding. Extensive flooding of rivers and creek flooding will occur.
Between Saturday and Monday, 6 to 10 inches of rain generally are expected, with isolated amounts up to 16 inches, particularly along east and south sides of mountains, including the Blue Ridge Escarpment.
It’s the water, not the wind, that does most of the physical damage...which is especially frustrating when the power is also out for days.
The party at my house will go on Saturday night, but probably without my NC friend...he boarded up his beach house last weekend. Beautiful weather forecasted here for the party (Sunny 80/65, perfect for backyard pig roast, live music & bonfire later)...but my prayers will be for my friend and those who sustain loses from the storm. NC beach house is beautiful but has taken a beating...I agree that we have a new normal.
