As many of you know, I have an excellent relationship with my urologist. And as many know, I was diagnosed while my wife was recovering from a double mastectomy resulting from her second bout of breast cancer. Her treatment included three major surgeries for removal and reconstruction, chemotherapy and radiation (both for a second time), nearly eight years of continued drug therapy (aromatease inhibitors), and a remaining lifetime of treatment for severe lymphedema from the removal of lymph nodes.
Recently, my urologist requested that I assist his practice with their prostate cancer awareness public relations. Of course I agreed. In doing so, a local Atlanta television station became interested and requested an interview for Lee and I to share our experience allowing them to focus on both prostate and breast cancer. As a result, we understand the interview will air today on Fox 5 Atlanta at five o’clock in their health segment.
Our main points in sharing our experience include: known your body and the relevant metrics like PSA, be your own advocate, find the best doctors, be diligent and dedicated to enabling the treatment to be successful, be strong, and live life. Hopefully these will be captured in the presentation.
If there is interest, I will try to post a link so that the interview can be seen by those not in the Atlanta area.
